Tending to the earth
We understand that as stewards of the land under our care, sustainability is critical to everything that we do. So, though, we do not have organic certification, we do actively try to find a balance between using more modern, chemical based, farming technologies and more traditional, low-impact, farming strategies such as:
- Multi-Cropping - Growing a variety of different crops - vegetables, flowers and herbs.
- Planned crop rotations that help to replenish nutrients to the soil.
- Planting greens to help replace organic matter and reduce soil erosion naturally on land not actively being farmed.
- Implementing planting plans that include specific “companions” that will help each crop flourish by attracting beneficial insects, repelling harmful ones and/or returning critical nutrients to the soil.
- Having a variety of both perennial and annual flowers and herbs in the fields specifically to attract beneficiary insect populations for improved pollination/fruit set, and pest control.
